Devotions to Saint Joseph

Devotions to our patron Saint Joseph include these excellent means to obtain special favors through St. Joseph's intercession and to honor his Seven Sorrows and Seven Joys. Start your devotion with one of the prayers detailed below - The Way of Saint Joseph, The Seven Sundays Devotion, The Litany of Saint Joseph.

The Way of Saint Joseph is a prayerful pilgrimage around our campus.  Enjoy your prayer walk with these prayers.

The Seven Sundays Devotion is a little-known, yet long-standing devotion of the Church to St. Joseph, patron of the universal church. It can be prayed at any time of the year, but is especially appropriate in preparation for the feast of St. Joseph on March 19.

The chaplet honors seven joys and seven sorrows that St. Joseph experienced as husband of the Mother of God, faithful guardian of Christ, and head of the holy family. It is a prayerful opportunity for the faithful to contemplate these circumstances in St. Joseph's life, so that we can imitate him when faced with our own sorrows and joys.  As members of St. Joseph, it can also serve to draw us closer to the patron saint of our parish. When praying the Seven Sundays devotion, it is customary to pray for a specific intention, asking St. Joseph’s powerful intercession for your needs. The National Catholic Register has a great article on this devotion here Learn About Saint Joseph Seven Sundays Devotion

The devotion begins on the seventh Sunday before March 19 - which is late January or early February. Mark your calendar early in the year.

O glorious St. Joseph, faithful follower of Jesus Christ, to you do we come to ask your powerful intercession in obtaining from the merciful Heart of Jesus all the helps and graces that we need for our spiritual and temporal welfare, and in particular the grace of a happy death, and the special favor we now implore (mention the grace you are requesting). O guardian of the Word incarnate, we know with confidence that your prayers on our behalf will be graciously heard before the throne of God, and that God will grant us whatever is for His greater glory and for our greatest good.

Repeat seven times:

V.        O glorious St. Joseph, through your love of Jesus Christ and for the glory of his name

R.        Hear our prayers and ask God to grant our petitions.
